JOHN MOUSINHO SAYS HE IS A "BETTER PLAYER NOW"

7 October 2015

JOHN Mousinho has picked up the captain’s armband ever since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took over almost a year ago now.

He is the ideal candidate after representing four other clubs in League One on different occasions.

Mousinho was only a youngster when he played in League One for now Championship Brentford which just shows what a way he has come, to now captain a table topping Burton Albion.

“I think I am a better player now than I was in those days, certainly more experienced and that helps in these divisions.” Said the skipper.

“Looking at it compared to when I was playing in League One a few years ago, there are certainly bigger clubs playing in League One now who are spending a lot more money and the standard is higher.

“Having said that, some of the toughest games this year are against the clubs that have come up with us.

“Saturday was a very tough game against Southend, I know we won it and we beat Shrewsbury as well but they were the two toughest games.”

The Albion are coming up against much bigger teams in League One, the likes of Coventry City, Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic.

Burton have only struggled once this season, that was against ex-Premier League Coventry City after Marcus Tudgay and Roman Vincelot snatched all three points for the Sky Blues.

John Mousinho said “We have played the big boys as well, I know we got beat by Coventry and I thought we put in a really good performance against Sheffield United.

“It is difficult to compare too many different eras but the money has certainly filtered down.

“You look at the likes of Sheffield United, Wigan and Barnsley who have all been in the premiership just to name a couple so I think it is a very good standard of league and I think that is credit to the lads that we have done so well coming up as a small club.”
