MAYNARD SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL

1 July 2015

KELVIN Maynard is the latest player to put pen to paper for Burton Albion as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's League One squad continues to take shape.

The 28-year-old was one of the first players brought in by the Albion boss after he took charge of the club last November.

He forced his way into the first team, but injury restricted his appearances as Albion closed in on the League Two title.

However, he had shown enough quality to be offered a deal for the 2015/16 season.

He says: “I’m very excited. It was always a dream for me to play in England. We got promoted last year and we can now look forward to playing in League One.”

Maynard made his professional debut in Holland with FC Volendam in the 2006/7 season and played 35 times the following campaign as the club were promoted to Eredivisie – the Dutch top flight.

After another season with Volendam, he went on to play in Portugal and Hungary before a return to Holland and then a move to Royal Antwerp FC in Belgium.

Maynard played for Hasselbaink while he was in charge of Royal Antwerp, in Belgium, where the Brewers boss admired his work rate and the skills he brought to the team.
