MANAGER'S VERDICT - GILLINGHAM

30 April 2016

NIGEL Clough hailed the resilience of his Brewers team after the late winner against Gillingham.

The Brewers boss said: "I thought we played well today and deserved to win the game but maybe not in those dramatic circumstances.

"We started the game well but conceded a goal from a corner to let them back in. Phil Edwards got a little push in there which was difficult for the ref to see but apart from that we were good today.

"We were hoping for a late goal but were also concerned about conceding as a defeat would have taken it out of our hands. A draw wouldn't have been the worst but I think we deserved that for our last few home matches. We haven't had a break in the three recent draws here. We deserved a win on the back of that.

"But we are not there yet. The win puts us in a great position. Our lap of honour today wasn't a celebration but more of a thanks to the fans. We still not a point as it stands at Doncaster next week. We are ever so close but we are not there yet.

"We always knew that even with a win it wouldn't be over. We knew we needed four points at the start of the day and unless Fleetwood do us a favour against Walsall on Monday that's still the case."
