Brewers Loan Tigers Keeper Oxley

Mark Oxley joins on one month loan deal

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett has moved to strengthen his goalkeeping options with the loan signing of Hull City stopper Mark Oxley. Oxley, 22, joins the Brewers on an initial one month loan deal, subject to official confirmation.

Oxley joins Burton Albion after injuries to Stuart Tomlinson and Ross Atkins left Dean Lyness as the only available goalkeeper for Saturday’s match against Bradford City. A product of the Rotherham United academy, Oxley has been a regular on the bench for Hull City this season and has made loan appearances for Grimsby Town earlier in his career.

Speaking shortly after signing for the Brewers Oxley said, ‘I was preparing for Hull’s match against Bristol City who they play on Saturday when I got a phone call saying Burton were interested. Obviously I want to come out and play some games, they’re a good club and doing well in the league.

‘It’s not good to see anybody get injured but that’s how you get your chance in football, especially as a goalkeeper. I want to come here and do well and see where that can take me. This has come out of the blue but it’s a chance I’ve got to take.

‘It seems a good club, the stadium’s nice and our goalkeeper coach at Hull speaks highly of Kevin Poole so I’m looking forward to working with him. I like to be confident in everything I do and try and do my best for the team.

‘The whole idea of this season for me is to come somewhere and play regularly, this is the season where I need to play first team football and a club like Burton is the best place for me to be doing it.’

Gary Rowett said, ‘I’ve watched Mark on several occasions now. He reminds me a little bit of Legzy (Adam Legzdins) in terms of his size and presence. I’ve spoken to a few people at Hull and they like him. He’s somebody who I’ve actually looked at bringing in before but the circumstances are right now. It’s an initial one month loan so we’ll see where we can go from there.’

Oxley will wear the number 30 shirt for Burton Albion.
