Clean sweep for Brewers in npower awards

15 March 2013

Burton Albion's fine February form has been rewarded with Manager Gary Rowett and midfielder Jacques Maghoma picking up the npower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively.

Four wins and a draw in five league games in February ensured that Burton Albion maintained a spot in the automatic promotion positions; scoring 16 goals in the process.

Key to the Brewers’ run of form were the performances of Jacques Maghoma; the 25-year-old contributing heavily with four goals including a superb curler into the top corner in the 4-2 victory over Exeter City.

The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and npower Partnership and Sponsorship Manager Katy Thomas.

The Player of the Month panel sees Katy Thomas joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson commented: ‘Gary and his staff have produced some exceptional results and have assembled the strongest squad that we’ve experienced since we gained promotion to the npower football league. Well done also to Jacques Maghoma for winning the npower League 2 Player of the Month award.

‘The team has produced a marvellous run, which has seen a club record nine straight home wins. We now enter the last eight games with promotion within our reach.’

Gary Rowett added: ‘It’s great to receive recognition for what we achieved in February and, most importantly, it’s testament to the players and their efforts over the period.

‘I’m also delighted for Jacques, who fully deserves the accolade of npower League 2 Player of the Month after some very impressive displays.’

Alan Curbishley commented: ‘Burton’s fine season has continued through February with Rowett’s men winning four of their five games. The Brewers are now in a great position to compete for an automatic promotion place in npower League 2.’

Commenting from npower, Partnership and Sponsorship Manager Katy Thomas added: ‘It was clearly a great month for Burton Albion, both in the dugout and on the pitch. It's very tight up at the top of npower League 2 but after a month like this, I'm sure Burton Albion will be brimming with confidence and will back themselves heavily to win automatic promotion.’
