NEW COACHING ROLE FOR FORMER PLAYER AARON

13 February 2016

FORMER Brewers player Aaron Webster is to take up a new role with the club helping to coach the next generation of Albion stars.

Aaron’s long service at the club saw the Brewers rise from the Northern Premier League to the Football League and he played a major part in that success story.

Now he’s going to guide Albion’s current crop of young talents as the elite team manager of the Football and Education programme, organised for school leavers by Burton Albion Community Trust.

Open trials for the programme are about to start and Aaron is excited about the prospect of bringing his knowledge of Burton Albion and coaching skills to the young players.

He says: “I’m delighted to be taking up this new role. I think everyone knows my affinity with the club, how long I played for the team and how many people I know in the area. To get a job like this is really good news and is the start of a career in coaching for me.

“I played so many games for the club and want to pass on the knowledge I have gathered over the years and help others strive and fulfil their ambitions in football. It’s great for me to think I can pass something on to these young lads. If I see some of these lads make it that will be something I will be very proud of.

“I was released from Coventry at 16 and thought that was it but I had an opportunity to come to Burton Albion. There was no education side of the youth set up then just football but now we link with the college and look at both sides, so the lads learn about football and get a good education. They are getting pushed in the right direction for football and other routes in life.”

The open trials are supported by the PFA Union Learning Fund Achievement Through Sport programme and run in conjunction with Burton and South Derbyshire College.

The first open trial is on Thursday, February 18, from 10am to 2pm at Robert Sutton School. The second is at the same venue on Tuesday, April 5, from 10am to 2pm.
