ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

1 September 2015

7 changes for the Brewers that started away at Shrewsbury on Saturday. Flanagan made his debut with Joachim in from the start.t

The opening exchanges were extremely quiet as neither side created anything until the 22nd minute when a succession of corners from Doncaster were dealt with before a McKay volley was well blocked thanks to a combination of Flanagan and Naylor, nothing came of it.

The Albion soon responded with a corner from the training ground. Duffy whipped the ball in for Palmer who headed towards goal whilst on the move but Stuckmann pulled off a reflect save to deny him.

Doncaster upped the pressure in the latter stages of the second half as Whitehouse provided a ball into the middle for Main who struggled to get the ball out of his feet but he still found a good shot which O'Connor blocked and cleared well.

More pressure was asserted as Main tried his luck from a tight angle which very nearly caught Matthews out but he got his body behind it and saved well. Albion cleared the resulting corner.

A cagey first half with not many chances created for either side meant the score was level at half time.

Half time: Doncaster Rovers 0-0 Burton Albion

A double sub for Doncaster at half time. Chaplow and Marosi replaced Keegan and Stuckmann respectively. The Brewers emerged unchanged but made their first sub on 51 minutes as Butcher was replaced like Reilly.

The home side had the first chance of the second half as Main's shot from the edge of the box was tipped with by Matthews and Albion cleared the resulting corner.

Soon after, Stewart found space on the left to pick out a good cross which Main got his head on but Flanagan was there to clear well.

A like-for-like change as Binnom-Williams replaced Duffy on 60 minutes, maybe to add that drive and determination which won the game for the Brewers on Saturday.

The substitute was straight into the action as his power beat 2 defenders before finding the perfect ball for Akins but his shanked shot went a yard or so wide.

It was nearly a debut goal for Flanagan as his powerful header from Palmer's corner was well saved by the substitute 'keeper Marosi, so unlucky.

It was Albion's turn to put the pressure on towards the end of the second half as a succession of corners caused trouble in the Doncaster box but the
Brewers couldn't find the breakthrough!
