ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

28 November 2015

Just one change to the side that beat Wigan on Tuesday. In came Binnon-Williams for Calum Butcher.

GOAL: The deadlock was broken after just four minutes. A mistake from Anthony O'Connor down the left gifted Massey the ball who crossed it for Harriott on the edge of the box, he tried his luck and with a bit of a deflection he beat Jon McLaughlin who got his fingertips to it.

The Brewers didn't seem to be able to get the ball down and play their usual stuff in the first half. The Colchester fans were left unhappy when the Brewers were given a free kick 25 yards from goal after a 50/50 challenge in the air between Edwards and Harriott.

GOAL: From the resulting free kick, the Brewers equalised through that man again Nasser El Khayati. He spotted a gap to the 'keeper's left and curled it round the wall from a similar distance to the one he scored at Blackpool.

Colchester thought they were in front on the half hour mark when Edwards teed up a shot from the edge of the box, McLaughlin looked like he had it covered but the ripple on the side of the net was an illusion to the away fans.

GOAL: The Albion took the lead with ten minutes until half time. Beavon chased his own flick-on, squared it to Duffy who fired at goal and scored with the help of a deflection.

HT: Burton Albion 2-1 Colchester United

O'Connor was replaced by McCrory at half time for the Brewers.

GOAL: The Brewers scored a third early in the second half. Duffy ran through on goal before being tackled by Kent, the ball then ricocheted off Naylor and found the back of the net with the help of the post!

McLaughlin's post was shaking just after the hour mark as Massey shot on the turn with his left foot, it beat the Albion stopper but the ball just rolled along the goal line and out.

GOAL: Akins added a fourth with his first touch. A McCrory cross from the left was volleyed home by the wide man from 12 yards!

GOAL: The Ketchup bottle was finally opened by Timmy Thiele! He headed home with 10 minutes to go from a Naylor flick on!

FT: Burton Albion 5-1 Colchester United

Ash's man of the match: Tom Flanagan

Attendance: 2,893.
