ROBBIE WEIR WELCOMING NEW STYLES OF PLAY

29 July 2015

Weir will be the longest serving Brewers this season.

Robbie Weir will kick off the 2015/16 season as the longest serving player in the Brewers squad, being the first signing of the Gary Rowett era when he took the Burton Albion reins permanently.

The Irishman is looking forward to see what Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will do with his squad come the new season after seven new faces have arrived at the Pirelli Stadium.

“Obviously we are still in pre-season so it still is about your fitness and stuff like that.” Weir said.

“I think the gaffer will want to work on a few of the players working with each other as you’ve seen previously he started with me and Callum Butcher in the middle, it’s just trialling different things out.”

Most of pre-season is about gaining the fitness back after a couple of months of no football but with four home games against higher opposition in Wolves, Birmingham, Leicester and Derby, it is a real chance to prepare some squad organisation ready for the new season.

“We moved to three in the midfield near the end of the Wolves game, so yes like I said it’s a bit of both really, fitness and structure.”

The Brewers face Derby County in their final home pre-season game before the Sky Bet League 1 kicks off on August 8th where Scunthorpe will be the visitors at the Pirelli Stadium.
