Burton Albion have completed the signings of Adam Reed, Alex MacDonald and Dominic Knowles ahead of the 2013/14 season.

Reed joins on a one year deal after being released from Barclays Premier League outfit Sunderland; where the 22-year-old had been a regular for the Black Cats’ Development Squad.

The tough-tackling midfielder has Football League experience having enjoyed loan stints at Brentford, Bradford, Leyton Orient, as well as plying his trade in npower League 1 at Portsmouth; making 10 appearances at Fratton Park.

Latterly, Reed enjoyed a hugely successful time at York City; scoring twice in a six game unbeaten spell as the Minstermen secured their npower League 2 status.

Alex MacDonald has penned a two year contract with the club, having impressed during a 17 game loan spell from Burnley last season.

The 23-year-old has npower Championship experience with Burnley having joined the club as a trainee in 2008 and has also excelled during spells at Plymouth as well as north of the border with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Striker Dominic Knowles completes the trio of arrivals; the former 21-year old agreeing a year-long deal.

Knowles spent the final months of the previous campaign with Burton and has consequently been rewarded with a new contract; having previously hit 10 goals in just 14 appearances for Harrogate Town.

Burton Manager Gary Rowett commented: ‘I’m delighted to be bringing in three young, enthusiastic and talented individuals who all want to be a part of Burton Albion Football Club.

‘Adam is a midfielder who arrives with good pedigree and is exactly the type of player and personality we want at the club and we’re very pleased to add him to the squad.

‘Alex came in last season and did very well for us and I think he is only going to get better. He’s a good age, has plenty of ability and knows exactly what we’re all about and what we want to achieve.

‘Dominic is an exciting prospect who clearly knows where the back of the net is and deserves his chance at professional level; his attitude during the brief time he spent with us was spot on.’
