PLAYER REACTION TO ALBION'S PROMOTION TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

9 May 2016

DEFENDER Phil Edwards says promotion "means the world" to the Brewers players.

After being an ever-present in this League One campaign Edwards said: "Two years ago we never thought we would be in this position and in The Championship,

"We took the challenge by the scruff off the neck, have done really well and everyone should be proud of what they have achieved.

"We heard at half-time that Walsall were winning but at the end of the day we always knew we had to concentrate on ourselves. We did the job and got the point we needed.

"It was another clean sheet and we know how strong we are defensively. We stood strong as a unit and got the result we needed."

Lucas Akins' flurry of goals at the end of the season helped edge Albion over the line.

Akins says: "No-one was ever going to do us any favours - no-one ever has. It was all down to us and we would rather do it outright and it not come down to goal difference.

"I'm a little bit disappointed that we didn't nick the top spot but nobody will care about that next year. It's all about the here and now and it's a fantastic occasion."
