YOUNG PROSPECTS EARN PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTS

22 April 2016

THREE Burton Albion Academy prospects are celebrating after receiving their first professional contracts.

Defender Charlie Gatter, midfielder Ben Fox and striker Marcus Dinanga will be joining Nigel Clough’s first team squad next season.

The trio of 18-year-olds have consistently impressed as they have come through the academy system.

Academy manager Mike Whitlow said: “It’s really pleasing for us to see these lads progress.  Since Nigel Clough has arrived the lads have had more opportunities than ever.

“We want to see that progression from the first time they come in the building to that first team opportunity. Charlie has been with us for four years , Ben five, Marcus was a little later - but all have developed really well. It’s now up to them to take this opportunity with the first team squad and show what they are about.

“It’s an inspiration to the other lads that these three maybe pulling on a first team sheet and stepping out at the Pirelli - as that’s every player’s dream here."

Nigel Clough said: “The lads have impressed when they have come to first team training and have deserved this opportunity. It’s important for the club that we keep bringing players through from the Academy.”
