Brewers centre back Tony James has agreed a one year extension to his current contract which will see him stay with the Club until the end of next season.

Burton Albion have rejected a transfer offer for James from another League Two side.

James has made 26 appearances for Burton Albion this season and has been an influential figure in the Brewers first season in the Football League.

Brewers manager Paul Peschisolido said, 'Tony's been a huge part of what we are trying to achieve this season. I'm delighted that we've agreed to keep him at the Club for beyond this season.'

And when asked whether he was happy to be staying with the club Tony James said, 'Very much so, I didn't have long left on my contract so I enquired with the gaffer before Christmas to see if I was going to be offered a renewal.

'It's taken just over a month to sort something out so I've had to wait a little time,' continued James. 'But the gaffer's been busy over Christmas time so things just took a little while to get sorted out.'

James has been in excellent form for the Brewers this season and has been a mainstay in the centre of the Burton back line. And the former Hereford defender believes that maintaining his form has been crucial in earning the new deal.

He said, 'That helps, I've been in good form and playing well. I think when your looking for a new contract it's important to be in good form. As you get a bit older you tend not to get long contracts as well.

'I really enjoy being here. It's a bit of a different situation for me because of the travel but I enjoy being here with the lads and I'm really enjoying the way things have been going this season.'
