Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Paulo Pasquale Peschisolido began his footballing career in North America with Toronto Blizzard in his native Canada and with the Kansas City Comets in the American Major Indoor Soccer League.
His move to England came about in 1992 when a former youth coach helped him achieve a £25,000 move to Birmingham City. Paul spent two seasons with the Blues before moving across the Midlands to Stoke City in a £400k plus player deal and stayed with the Potters for a further two seasons with a short loan spell back with the Blues for good measure.
His performances for Stoke earned him a £600k move to West Bromwich Albion where he scored within nine minutes of his league debut against QPR. After scoring 21 times in 52 games for the Baggies his form drew attention from an ambitious then Division Two Fulham who paid £1.1m to take Paul to Craven Cottage. It proved a good move as Fulham were promoted as Division Two champions with Paul scoring thirteen times in their promotion campaign and his good form continued as he netted ten times the following season. Towards the end of his time at Craven Cottage, loan spells at QPR, Sheffield United and Norwich City paved the way for his next career move to Sheffield United for £250,000 where he was a key player in the Blades 2003 run to both domestic cup semi-finals and also the play-off final.
In March 2004, Paul took the short journey down the M1 to join up with Derby County proving to have the knack of popping up with crucial goals scoring 20 times in 90 appearances and was a member of the Rams team that gained promotion to the Premiership at Wembley against one of his former sides, West Bromwich Albion in a tense finale to the season.
Upon his release from Pride Park Paul moved to Luton Town but an early season ankle injury wrecked his campaign and he was released from Kenilworth Road at the end of his one year contract.
In a distinguished career Paul also represented Canada at junior, youth, under-23 and full international level earning 53 caps and scoring 11 goals for the national side. This added to a total of 520 senior club appearances and 137 goals accumulated over a 15 year playing career.
After leaving his final league club, Luton Town, Paul completed his coaching badges having played under some influential managers during his career from whom he also draw a lot of experience and had briefly taken his first steps on the road to a managerial career by assisting his former teammate and friend Jeff Kenna at Irish side St Patricks Athletic since January 2009.
However, when another former Rams player and manager Roy McFarland declined the opportunity to inherit the Burton Albion hotseat on a permanent basis after coming in as caretaker boss following Nigel Clough's departure to Derby in January 2009, Paul beat off a field of more than fifty applicants to secure his first managerial appointment with an impressive interview and his first move was to immediately link up with another former Blues and Rams player Gary Rowett, himself a former Albion player, as his trusted assistant, the two men taking on their exciting new challenge on May 18th 2009. The new Albion boss has set about his new task with relish preparing the Brewers for their first ever season in Coca-Cola League 2 keeping a nucleus of the Blue Square Championship squad and adding a blend of experience and young talent to prepare the Brewers in their exciting quest for Football League success.
