Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido was a happy and relieved man after seeing the Brewers record another 3-2 victory, this time over struggling Northampton Town at Sixfields. An action packed Boxing Day game saw two goals in the first 90 seconds and a second Northampton goal to go with a red card for home skipper John Johnson all before the game was twenty minutes old.
The Brewers had substitutes Chris Palmer and Justin Richards to thank for the three points as Palmer came on early in the second home and crashed home a 25 yard equaliser, his first goal for the club, before Richards stepped up to slot home a penalty two minutes from time to steal the win from Aidy Boothroyd's new charges.
Pesch praised the attitude of his substitutes who turned the game for him just when it looked like being a frustrating afternoon with Northampton holding on to a 2-1 lead with their ten men.
"Two of the substitutes came on today and scored the goals and I am delighted for them." said the Brewers boss. "You want your subs to be ready and be prepared to come on. The main thing is for them not to sulk when they are not starting. They haven't done that. They are disappointed not to be starting but they have got on with it. That is what I want. You don't let it affect you and you come on and change games. They (Justin and Chris) have prepared themselves and come on and got the goals so I am delighted with that.
The sending off of home skipper John Johnson for an elbow on John McGrath divided opinion but Peschisolido thought the decision slightly harsh.
"I honestly didn't think it was a red card" he said, "I thought from where I saw it that it was just a clash of heads. I will have to have a look at it again though to be sure. Sometimes you get those sorts of decisions given and sometimes you don't"
The other match turning decisions were the two penalties which Peschisolido also thought were slightly harsh.
"If you look at the penalties then I thought that the Northampton one in the first half was soft but if that is a penalty then ours was a penalty as well." Pesch explained." I wasn't quite sure what he gave theirs for but we were told it was for tugging of the shirt. On the basis of what he has given earlier in the game then yes, I thought ours was a penalty as well. Cleveland was about to volley it and the lad has barged into him."
