This month npower have launched What's Your Goal? 2012 -a nationwide work experience scheme which will provide work placements for secondary school-aged children in the UK, in partnership with The Football League Trust.

With youth unemployment statistics released this week expected to reach a record high, and the continuation of Work Related Learning for 14 to 16 year olds currently under threat, npower is aiming to capitalise on its links with The Football League to provide young people with an invaluable opportunity to gain genuine work-related skills within the exciting environment of football.

To enter, students are asked to fill out a job application, downloadable at www.npower.com/whatsyourgoal.

What's Your Goal? 2012 is being led by West Ham Vice Chairman, Karren Brady and ex-player and media pundit Robbie Savage, and the initiative will see npower work with all 72 clubs in The Football League to offer over 300 work experience placements to school children in Years 10 - 11, at local clubs in their local areas. The diverse range of placements on offer include roles such as Comunity Manager, Club Shop Manager and Groundsman, amongst others.

In addition to the local club placements, young people are also invited to apply for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend the day with one of the campaign's high profile national mentors including footballing titans such as Sir John Majejski, owner of Reading FC, Malky McKay, manager of Cardiff City FC as well inspirational figures in the world of football such as Sasa Ihringova, The Football League's most senior female referee.

Young people can secure the chance to be individually mentored by one of the 'Dream Team' national mentors, or apply for a week-long work placement at their local FL clubby visiting npower.com/whatsyourgoal and following a real-life application process, requiring them to submit a CV and a video demonstrating their enthusiam and suitability for the role they're applying for.

Clare McDougall, npower's head of education and community, said:

"Young people are currently facing a double whammy of high unemployment levels and the serious threat of Work Related Learning being abolished in schools. It's a real concern.

"With one-in-five young people not able to find work at the moment and competition within the jobs market being so tough, it's even more important that young people are given the opportunity to equip themselves with the skills and experience they need to successfully enter the world of work.

"What's Your Goal 2012 has been designed to encourage young people to consider the genuine job opportunities that are available within the football industry, in their local areas; and we don't mean being the star player on the pitch!"

Karren Brady, Vice Chairman of West Ham and What's Your Goal? 2012 mentor, commented:

"npower's What's Your Goal 2012 is a fantastic way to show young people that you don't need to score goals to shoot to the top in the football industry. Whether you're passionate about business, photography, presenting or refereeing the nation's favourite sport, this scheme offers young people a great way to learn skills from the best in the business."

"I've never played professional football but I've managed to create a successful career by working hard and taking my chances when they arose. This industry is full of opportunities, as long as you work hard."

Football League Trust General Manager, Mike Evans said:

"The Football League Trust is delighted to be delivering 'What's Your Goal' at all 72 club community trusts, made possible by npower's support. The Trust has assisted many people into work through its apprenticeship programmes, the 'Future Jobs Fund' and now The Work Programme.

What's Your Goal will help young people consider their employment opportunities at an even younger age, and give many the chance to try out their ideal job at their local football club, inspiring them to push to achieve their career goal."

Further to the WYG scheme, npower has also been announced as a partner in the Deputy Prime Minister's new Social Mobility Business Compact, which calls for major employeers within the UK to open up their doors and provide fairer access to internships and work experiences places for young people.
