PESCH SWOOPS FOR STANTON

Posted on: Mon 05 Jul 2010

In a busy day at Burton Albion, Paul Peschisolido has completed his third new signing since the players reported back for pre-season training last Thursday.

Hot on the heels of goalkeeper Adam Legzdins and Liverpool striker James Ellison (see today's breaking news) 29 year old central defender Nathan Stanton has moved from newly promoted Rochdale to join the Brewers on a two year contract after rejecting 'Dale's offer of a one year contract extension.

Stanton, played 38 times for the Spotland club last season as they claimed promotion to League 1 and played in both games against Albion, where ironically Burton completed the double over Keith Hill's side.

Nathan's move to Burton ends a four year stay with the Lancashire club where he has clocked up over 150 appearances. Prior to joining Rochdale the Nottingham born defender amassed over 250 games in the colours of Scunthorpe United where he progressed through the youth ranks even captaining the side at the age of seventeen. Despite playing over 400 senior matches in his career, Nathan has scored just one goal in his career, against Lincoln City in a League 2 play-off semi-final at Sincil Bank in 2003.

Nathan told www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk: "

"The manager here impressed me a lot. The facilities here are second to none and that was a major factor in me deciding to come here. I am very pleased to be here."

"I am 29 now and I was looking for a two year deal and they (Rochdale) could not offer me that so I thought it was time for me to move on. I have had four great seasons there and I felt it was time for a new challenge."

Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido was delighted to have secured one of his main summer targets having fought off competition from other League 2 clubs to secure the signature of Stanton.
"Nathan was a player we admired last season in a very good Rochdale side" enthused Albion's manager, "He brings steel, experience and pace to our side and I feel that things are really starting to come together now."
