‘Moose’ is the inspirational captain of the Brewers having taken on the skipper’s armband upon Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s arrival in November 2015.

John signed for the club in the summer of 2015 and proved to be one of the best pieces of summer transfer business that Gary Rowett oversaw as the former Wycombe and Stevenage man celebrated a third promotion from League 2 in his career.

After a youth career taking in Chesham United and Notre Dame Fighting Irish whilst at college in America John was signed by Brentford for whom he made more than 60 appearances in two and a half years at Griffin Park joining Wycombe in 2008 and helping the Chairboys to promotion in his first season at the club.

John repeated the feat of promotion at the first attempt when he joined Stevenage in the summer of 2010 scoring the only goal of the League 2 Play-Off Final to defeat Torquay United and secure back to back promotions for the Hertfordshire club.

Former Stevenage manager Graham Westley moved quickly to secure John’s services when he took over at Preston but when he left after a short spell in charge John fell out of favour and he became one of Gary Rowett’s major targets following Albion’s Play-Off Final defeat.

After starting the season in midfield, John moved to centre back and has been a key part of the Brewers miserly defence over the last two seasons that has led to successive promotions.
