Tom put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Brewers after his contract with Derby County expired in the summer of 2015.

A loan spell from the Rams gave Tom the chance to earn a permanent move to the Pirelli Stadium and some dominant performances in central midfield ensured he grasped the opportunity with both hands.

Converted from a midfielder to a central defender during his early days at Mansfield Town, spells with Alfreton Town and Belper Town aided his development and got him noticed by clubs higher up the leagues.

Derby County took Tom initially on loan in November 2011 making the move permanent two months later on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Most of his experience whilst at Pride Park came via loan moves to Bradford City, Grimsby Town, Newport County AFC and Cambridge United before Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink brought him to Burton where he was a key part of the title winning run-in.

Tom had even more of an influence last season with some dominating performances in the middle of the park and a knack for scoring important goals, two headed finishes against Wigan Athletic and Gillingham towards the end of the season helping to see Albion across the promotion finishing line.
