Bio: Having been released by Derby County as a teenager, Matt Palmer joined our Academy and was named Most Improved Young Player following his first year as a scholar with the Brewers.
First-team football followed soon after Palmer signed his first professional deal with the club, with Gary Rowett handing the youngster his senior debut as a substitute for Jacques Maghoma in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Altrincham in November 2012.
Two more league appearances followed by season's end, and Palmer was soon forcing his way into Rowett's reckoning for the starting line-up, the tidy midfielder playing a key role as we took back-to-back promotions in 2015 and 2016 from League Two to the Championship.
Palmer had been sent out on loan to Oldham following a lack of game-time in that 2015/16 season, but returned with five games to play and became a key figure in our finishing second in League One at the first time of asking.
The young midfielder would go on to make 39 appearances in his first Championship season for Albion and would pass 150 games for the club before eventually moving to Rotherham United in January 2018.
