A DYLAN Scott hat-trick secured Burton Albion's Professional Development Phase an extremely impressive 3-0 victory against Hartlepool United in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

The Brewers dominated the match from start to finish and were never truly threated by the Pools’ attack. Once Scott scored his first of the day in the 17th minute Burton never looked backed and were in complete control of the match with Scott adding a further two goals later in the second half.

Lead Coach Keith Gilroy opted for a quite attacking line-up which saw Albion line-up in a 3-4-3 formation with usual wide duo Joe Nyahwema and Tristan Bennett being deployed as wingbacks, in hope of overloading Hartlepool out wide.

Burton’s first chance came in five minutes in when Kiyan Baker-McKay burst down the left wing where he cut the ball back to Bennett who drove dangerously into the box only to see his shot blocked for a corner.

Albion continued to pester the Pools’ defence and forced Shea O’Connor into a great save in the 11th minute when Scott robbed Hartlepool of possession on the edge of the area. Scott then played the ball out wide to Jakub Niemczyk whose low shot was well grasped by O’Connor.

Burton finally got their breakthrough in the 17th minute after Bennett beat two defenders on the left wing before firing the ball across to Scott on the edge of the box who quickly spun into the area and smashed the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

As the game progressed Albion looked more and more comfortable, however their intensity particularly in the final third of the pitch certainly slowed down as the Burton opted to keeping possession.

As the second half prolonged Albion began to create more chances in the hope of wrapping up a well deserved victory.

Scott came close to doubling his goal tally for the day in the 56th minute when Baker-McKay broke quickly on the break before squaring the ball across to Scott on the edge of the box, but his low shot sailed narrowly wide of the target.

Burton continued to cause problems outwide and this time it was substitute Ché Ranger who went close to a second for the Brewers. Bennett again produced a great cross in from the right where Ranger drove dangerously in the box only for his low shot to be pushed away by the keeper’s outstretched leg.

But, finally in the 84th minute Burton doubled their lead when Scott turned quickly on the edge of the box and fired a low shot into the bottom right corner leaving O’Connor rooted to the spot.

And in the fifth minute of injury time Scott was fouled in the area giving him a golden opportunity to complete his hattrick, and he didn’t disappoint as he placed to ball into the bottom left corner to make it 3-0.
