WOMEN'S COUNTY CUP REPORT | COVENTRY CITY 0-5 BURTON ALBION

10 January 2023

BURTON Albion turned in a five-star performance on Sunday, advancing to the fourth round of the Women's County Cup with a 5-0 victory over Coventry City.

Five different scorers secured Albion's route to the next round - with Elisha Gourlay, Charlotte Jarvis, Farrah Hoyle, Alice Lilley and captain Amber-Leigh Denny all on target.

Only one of those goals came in the first half. The wet and windy conditions were making getting the ball down difficult, but the Brewers would take the lead with GOURLAY finishing a neat team move, driving from central midfield and finishing well from a central position just inside the box.

HALF-TIME: COVENTRY CITY 0-1 BURTON ALBION

The floodgates would open in the second half, however, with JARVIS doubling the Brewers lead with a fine solo effort - bringing the ball out of defence and beating the Coventry keeper with an accurate effort from distance.

Youth team graduate HOYLE soon made it 3-0 - the pacy winger cutting in from the right after good build-up play and lifting a stunning effort from the corner of the box over the keeper and in.

LILLEY would secure Albion's fourth of the day - putting the keeper under pressure and finishing well, before club captain DENNY converted her second penalty in as many games to round off the scoring.

FULL-TIME: COVENTRY CITY 0-5 BURTON ALBION

Our thanks to Coventry City for hosting us, and we wish the Sky Blues all the best for the remainder of the season. The Brewers return to action this coming Sunday (January 15) with a game at home to Lye Town.
