BURTON Albion's Development Squad suffered their first defeat of the Staffordshire Girls and Ladies Premier Division season with a 6-1 away defeat at Doveridge.
Despite the scoreline, it was a battling performance from the Devs, who continued to press throughout the 90 minutes against a strong, experienced Doveridge side.
Indeed, it was a positive start for the Brewers in the early stages but the hosts would take the lead 20 minutes in as a missed tackle in defence allowed Rhiannon KENNY to get away and slot home from close range.
Megan PLANT would double the hosts' lead five minutes later as Doveridge's wingers continued to provide constant threats down the flanks.
HALF-TIME: DOVERIDGE 2-0 BURTON ALBION
KENNY had her second soon after the restart, arguably putting the game beyond the Brewers from that stage, with the score soon moving to 4-0, 5-0 and 6-0, with Megan HILL and Kelly PORTER on target for the hosts.
But still Albion did not falter, forcing a close-range save from Doveridge's keeper in the 70th minute before Bethan WASS finished well from close range to secure a deserved consolation for the Brewers.
Manager Ian Hudson said after the game: "First of all, many thanks to Doveridge for hosting and providing food after the game, it is much appreciated.
"This was a fantastic learning experience for the Burton Devs, who will learn and only get stronger from days like this.
"We now can't wait for the next match, when we take on Hednesford on the 3G pitch at the Pirelli Stadium this coming Sunday."
