BURTON Albion's Development Squad got their 2022/23 Staffordshire Girls and Ladies Premier Division season off to the perfect start with an away win at Albrighton.

Goals from Tallulah Lovelock and Mia Fellows secured a first three points of the season, with a fine first half display establishing a winning platform for Ian Hudson and Joe Kirkland's side.

The Brewers dominated the ball in the early stages and took the lead in the 26th minute, LOVELOCK hitting a fantastic left-footed drive from distance that nestled in past the Albrighton keeper.

Albion doubled their lead just nine minutes later in spectacular fashion. FELLOWS juggled the ball past several defenders while under pressure on the edge of the box, before volleying the ball home past the keeper's reach.

Albrighton turned the pressure up in the second half, pulling one goal back on the hour mark through Taylor WRIGHT, but the Brewers dug in deep while maintaining their attacking threat.

Kirkland said: "The team showed fantastic character for the full 90 minutes against a good Albrighton team this afternoon.

"We're one of the youngest teams in the league but the players applied themselves brilliantly to see out the win.

"I have to mention Jess Travers, who turned in a fine performance as a stand-in goalkeeper for us, and captain Jade Cooling, who showed tremendous leadership throughout the match.

"We now look to continue the standards set against Albrighton and into our next game."
