Former Rochdale Defender Signs Two Year Deal

Burton Albion have signed 23 year old central defender Marcus Holness on a two year contract following his release from Rochdale. Holness has taken part in training with the Brewers since the squad's return to pre season and played 45 minutes in Saturday's opening friendly fixture against Aston Villa.

Holness made over 100 appearances for Rochdale since joining the club from Oldham Athletic, initially on loan, in 2007. The six foot tall defender becomes Gary Rowett's fourth summer signing and the second addition to the centre of defence following the arrival of Zander Diamond in May.

Brewers boss Rowett said, 'Marcus is very strong and he's hungry to get his career back on track. He's shown a real desire to come to burton and he's played 80 games in League One over the past two seasons. At 23 he's the right age as well to add to the squad.'

A full interview with Holness will be available shortly on Brewers Player.

The Burton Albion youth team will travel to Rocester on Tuesday evening in a pre season friendly before the first team take on Gresley FC at the Moat Ground on Wednesday, kick off is 7.45pm.
