Women’s International Stars Launch Schools Tickets
St. George’s Park welcomed England Women’s duo Karen Carney and Sophie Bradley as they sent out an invite to all schools and colleges across the country to attend the much-awaited match against World Cup holders Japan on Wednesday 26 June (KO 1.45pm) at the Pirelli Stadium.
The players from the Club England Team of the Year for 2012, met with over 100 girls taking part in a competition from nearby schools in Burton on Trent. They delighted the youngsters by taking part in photography and signing autographs. Pupils also the chance to ask her their burning questions about what it is like to play for the country. Ten schools took part in the event with local school Oldfields Middle School winning the tournament in year 5&6 and Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School in year 3&4. The England stars are hoping their visit will inspire the children to come out to cheer them on in what promises to be a thrilling match.
This fixture is the second of two testing home internationals as Hope Powell prepares her side for Euro 2013. They recently secured a 1-0 victory over Olympic bronze medalists Canada in Rotherham on 7 April and will now face a stern test against the Japanese in their final warm-up match before they fly to Sweden. These two games form part of FA150 celebrations, helping to mark a special year for The Football Association - the governing body’s 150th anniversary and 20 years since they took over the running of the women’s game.
It has been decided the Japan game will kick-off at 1.45pm, a time negotiated to both secure the fixture against the World Champions and to give as many students as possible the chance to see some of the best female players in action. To support this, all students are being offered FREE tickets to the game in recognition of the key part schools football plays in the whole game. While students are a key priority, The FA are also encouraging local businesses to offer staff incentives and allow employees to experience top class women’s international football.
It is the first time that a Senior Women’s international has come to Burton and the Lionesses are hoping that children and football fans from across the land will come out with England flags waving and make sure it is a roaring success.
Carney said: “We are really excited to be playing in Burton for the first time. It’s been great to come up to St. George’s Park today and meet some of the local school kids. Facing one of the world’s best teams is a really important warm-up match in our final preparations for the Euros. We are hoping that students across England will take up the chance to get free tickets and really get behind us.”
Prior to seeing the two teams in action, fans are invited to take part in FREE, fun football-based interactive games, brought by Continental Tyres. Games include batak boards, a speed cage, a target shoot inflatable plus a new trailer which will house trophies and digital stations. To add to the enhanced fan experience, there will also be hair braiding and face painting, all of which will take place outside the stadium from midday.

Tickets are FREE for U16s when applied for through their educational institute.
Tickets are priced at £5 adults, and £2.50 concessions (U16s, Students and Over 65s).
Family ticket £10 (two adults and two children).
Under 8s admitted free with a full paying adult.
Group bookings for 15+ people £3 adults and £2 concessions.
Wheelchair users admitted for the price of a concession, with a free carer.
