Rowett upbeat ahead of Wycombe

9 April 2013

Burton Albion Manager Gary Rowett believes tonight’s match against represents a great opportunity for the Brewers’ to get back to winning ways.

The Brewers were well beaten on Friday evening away to a clinical Port Vale side who were worthy winners at Vale Park.

‘They were stronger, tougher and we were beaten soundly by a very very good team’ accepts Rowett.

‘We caused our own problems, second half we looked for a reaction to try and get a goal back and change the game but then conceded straight after half time so we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.’

The Brewers, as with many of the league’s promotion challengers, have experienced a dip in form as the 2012/13 campaign reaches its climax.

Despite recent results, the Burton Manager is adamant that the club’s ambitions for the season remain very much in tact; with this evening’s match and the visit of Plymouth on Saturday taking on great importance.

‘We’ve been on a slightly poorer run of form with two draws and two defeats and of course we’re all disappointed with that.’

‘However we’ve done fantastically well to be in the position we are in and we need to take the Port Vale result on the chin and react in a positive way against Wycombe.

‘As I said before the Port Vale match, we always felt it would come down to the two upcoming home games against Wycombe and Plymouth; it’s these matches that will dictate where our season goes.

‘I know Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe Manager) from our days together at Cambridge United. He always played with commitment and his Wycombe side play in the same way.

‘They’ll probably fancy their chances and they’ll provide a tough test for us, however we’ve just got to concentrate on our own performance.’

Burton Albion v Wycombe Wanderers is a 7:45pm kick-off at the Pirelli Stadium with tickets available on the evening from the Burton Albion Ticket Office.
