Brewers loan Pickford

2 August 2013

Burton Albion have agreed a deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to join the club on loan subject to the completion of the relevant paperwork.

The 19-year-old arrives at the Pirelli Stadium having gained first-team experience with spells at Darlington and most recently Alfreton Town; where Pickford impressed with five clean sheets in 12 games whilst on loan at the Reds.

The Washington-born stopper has been a regular for Sunderland’s Development Squad and recently represented England in the UEFA U19s European Championship as first-choice ‘keeper.

In total, Pickford has represented his country 33 times at youth level since making his debut for England U16s in in 2009 and will be eligible for the Brewers’ opening match of the Sky Bet League 2 campaign away at Cheltenham Town this Saturday.

Burton Albion Manager Gary Rowett commented: ‘Jordan is a player of undoubted ability who I know is regarded very highly by the coaches at the Stadium of Light.

‘He’s a player with great potential and in him and Dean Lyness we now have two talented young ‘keepers. It’s a position that requires a lot of consideration and I believe Jordan has the attributes and temperament to be a really valuable addition to the squad.’
