Burton Albion 1-0 Rochdale

10 August 2013

Skybet League 2 action from the Pirelli Stadium

A hard fought opening home game of the season saw the Brewers grab the three points over ten man Rochdale thanks to a goal just before half time.

Although originally credited as an Oliver Lancashire own goal, video replays later suggested that it was in fact striker Rene Howe that got the crucial touch to grab a debut goal and ensure victory.

Dale were reduced to ten men as early as the seventh minute when skipper Peter Cavanagh saw red for a challenge on Robbie Weir that referee Seb Stockbridge deemed dangerous but despite being at a numerical disadvantage for most of the game, Dale frustrated Albion for long periods.

Albion had chances to secure a more comfortable win late on when Ian Sharps headed narrowly wide from Alex MacDonald's corner and Michael Symes scooped a good chance over the bar.
