Sports course for young people due to start
Burton Albion Community Trust will be working in partnership with Sportiv8 to deliver a Level 1 course in Sport, starting in January 2014.
This will be aimed at 16-24 year olds who are not in any education, training or employment, and will be based at the new education room at the Pirelli Stadium, Burton Albion FC.
This is a fantastic opportunity for learners to develop skills in Sports Coaching through practical and theoretical learning delivered by qualified Coaches.
Learners will also get the opportunity to work with the staff in the unique setting of a professional football club environment.
Modules are both theory and Practical based and consist of the following:
• BTEC Level 1 in Sport
• Employability and personal Development
• Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (Up to Level 2 equivalent to A-C GCSE)
The programme will begin week commencing 13th January 2014 and will run for 25 weeks (June 2014 completion date).
Exit routes for the programme will be continued progression on to Level 2 programmes, opportunities for further training and enhanced employability in the Sport Industry.
Paul Whitworth, Education Officer commented ‘This course will really engage with young people who are currently not in Education through offering an innovative course involving plenty of physical activity, playing football and learning, the use of The Pirelli Stadium for this course will support their learning.’
Anyone interested in applying will need to attend an open day on Thursday 9th January at 1.30pm at the Pirelli Stadium, Burton Albion FC. This is available to applicants, parents/guardians and support workers to have a look at the content of the course, and ask any questions you may have. To attend the open day, you must book your place.
