Duo extend Brewers stay

Burton Albion Football Club has competed a double loan deal that will see goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist and defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff extend their loan periods with the Brewers.

Preston North End defender Cansdell-Sherriff has made 17 appearances for Albion since his loan move from the Lancashire club in September and has been part of nine clean sheets in those games.

The Sydney-born defender will now be part of the Albion squad for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.

Aston Villa loanee Benjamin Siegrist, a Switzerland Under-21 international goalkeeper has extended his loan spell for an extra month, running until February 2.

Siegrist has yet to make an appearance for Burton but has been an unused substitute since his arrival in November.

Burton Albion manager said: “We’ve now got Shane until the end of the season and that will automatically be extended to the play offs should we get there.

“Shane is someone we wanted to keep since he has been here.

“We now have four top class centre-backs all competing for a place and that is something you need in this league.

“From a defensive point of view he is our only naturally left-sided centre-back and he gives us that balance in defence and has done a great job since he has been here.

“Shane is a typical Aussie, he just wants to work hard and he has fitted in really well with all the players.”

On Siegrist Rowett added: “Benji has massive potential and it is only because of Dean’s form and the team’s results that he hasn’t got his chance yet, I think he has really enjoyed working with Kevin Poole and it has been great for his development.

“He is there waiting for his chance should it come his way and he will be able to show us all what we know he can do.

“At the moment he is keeping Dean on his toes and that’s why we’ve extended it for another month.”
