Brewers Loan Sharps from Millers

21 January 2013

Defender Ian Sharps joins until end of the season

Burton Albion have signed central defender Ian Sharps on loan until the end of the season from Rotherham United. Sharps, 32, began his second spell at the Millers in May 2012 and has made 22 appearances so far this season.

The 6ft 3’ defender began his career at Tranmere Rovers before moving to Rotherham United in 2006. He spent four years at the club before moving to Shrewsbury Town where he was made club captain and played 86 times.

Brewers boss Gary Rowett said, ‘Ian has agreed to join us until the end of the season and I think it’s a terrific coup for the club. He was promoted last year with Shrewsbury and is the Rotherham club captain this year.

‘We’re slightly surprised that we have been able to get him and I think he’s had one or two options but he’s showed a real desire to come to us. He brings us a bit of extra experience over the remaining games and gives us four really good options at centre back which will be needed in the last few months of the season.’
