Alfreton v Burton: Preview

Burton Albion travel to the Impact Arena this Saturday, 3pm kick-off, to take on Nicky Law’s Alfreton Town in what will be the Brewers’ second pre-season friendly.

Gary Rowett’s men succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Ilkeston FC at the New Manor Ground on Tuesday evening in a match that was nevertheless a solid run out for Burton; who used a total of 22 players.

The Brewers will once again field a mixture of first team, academy and trialist players as the squad steps up preparations ahead of the 2013/14 Football League 2 curtain-raiser away at Cheltenham Town on August 3rd.

For the hosts’ part, Law will be running the rule over an influx of new signings and the Reds have certainly been busy on the field as well as off it this pre-season; having hosted Championship outfit Birmingham City in a 3-1 defeat at the Impact Arena last Saturday.

Burton Albion Manager Gary Rowett commented: ‘It’ll be important to get the players another 45 minutes and some may get 60 under their belt in what I’m sure will be a competitive match.

‘We’ll look to include some of the younger lads as well who have got a great opportunity to play with the first team and they are there on merit; I’m sure they’ll find the experience at Alfreton invaluable.’

‘We’ve had another good week’s training on the back of the Ilkeston game, the players have worked exceptionally hard and we’re looking forward to the game.

Tickets for the match are available on the gate priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions with entrance to the ground via the Alma Street entrance.
