Youngster earns Blackburn move

2 July 2013

Burton Albion scholar Devarn Green has signed for Championship side Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

The 16-year-old, who can be deployed as a winger or striker, is the latest talented youngster to come through the ranks at the Pirelli Stadium.

Green, blessed with lightning pace, recently set the best-ever Nike SPARQ sprint time of 2.68 seconds; beating the likes of Theo Walcott and Raheem Sterling.

Blackburn will now take over the second year of Green's scholarship before awarding a two year full-time contract.

Burton Albion Academy Manager Mike Whitlow commented: ‘Our job is to create professional footballers and we want every youngster who comes into this building to progress, develop and get an opportunity and it is a fantastic move for Devarn.

‘He’s a great lad with a brilliant attitude and it’s rewarding for everyone involved. Last year we had Regan Upton join Wolves and now Devarn has got his chance at Blackburn and of course we have the likes of Matty Palmer; who made his debut for Burton last season.

‘We wish Devarn well and all want him to succeed and hopefully we’ve played our part in somebody becoming a professional footballer.
