Manager Gary Rowett handed five players their Brewers debut for the opening day encounter with Cheltenham Town. On loan England under 19 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was handed a start between the posts and a new look back four featured Phil Edwards at right back with Ian Sharps partnering Marcus Holness in the centre and Damien McCrory on the left. Rory Delap made his debut in the centre of midfield alongside Robbie Weir whilst fellow new boys Adam Reed and Chris Hussey lined up on the right and left respectively. Alex MacDonald was pushed forward to support Billy Kee in attack.
