Rowett and Maghoma nominated for Awards

12 March 2013

After a successful February for Burton Albion, Manager Gary Rowett and midfielder Jacques Maghoma have been nominated for the npower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month Awards respectively.

The Brewers boss is no stranger to such nominations, having been crowned npower League 2 Manager of the Month for December.

Football League sponsors npower have proudly revealed the nominations, with the winners set to be announced on Friday 15th March 2013; with the final decision being made by two separate Football League judging panels.

The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and Katy Thomas, npower Partnerships and Sponsorships Manager.

The Player of the Month panel sees Katy Thomas joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.

The nominations for the npower League 2 Manager of the Month Award for February are:

Aidy Boothroyd – Northampton Town

The ex-Watford manager enjoyed a strong February, guiding his Northampton Town outfit to four wins, a draw and a solitary loss in their six league fixtures. The Cobblers' 1-0 victory against Bristol Rovers to finish the month was their seventh home win in a row and this home form could be crucial in ensuring they are looking at promotion come May.

Steve Evans – Rotherham United

Steve Evans' side supplemented their Play-Off credentials in February, only dropping points in a loss to Burton Albion and in a draw against York City. The pre-season favourites for promotion will be keen to ensure that they maintain this form as the promotion race reaches its dramatic conclusion.

Gary Rowett – Burton Albion

Four wins and a draw in five league games ensured that Burton Albion maintained a spot in the automatic Play-Off positions. As well as the great form, Gary Rowett has Burton Albion playing free-scoring football too. The Brewers managed 16 goals in their five February fixtures, sending a clear message to their rivals as the promotion race heats up.

The nominations for the npower League 1 Player of the Month Award for February are:

Leon Legge (Gillingham) – central defender

The 27-year-old proved to be the perfect partner for Adam Barrett in a Gillingham defence which conceded just three goals in six February fixtures. Commanding in the air, strong on the ground, he also scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jacques Maghoma (Burton Albion) – midfielder

The cultured midfielder was instrumental in Burton Albion’s unbeaten February and goal spree, scoring four goals, including a superb curler into the top corner in the 4-2 victory over Exeter City.

Dave Winfield (Wycombe Wanderers) – central defender

It's been an immense contribution from Wycombe Wanderers' man mountain of a captain this month, ensuring away day victories at leaders Gillingham and Torquay United. Leading by example, he attacked the physical battles with relish and found time to head home himself in the 4-0 win over York City.
