Football and Education Programme 13/14

13 May 2013

On Thursday, 16th May Burton Albion Community Trust will be holding boys trials from 5.30pm-7.30pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex, staff will be there to direct you on arrival.

The trials are for boys who are set to leave secondary education in 2013. Boys who have an interest in joining our highly successful Football and Education Programme delivered in partnership with Burton and South Derbyshire College should get in touch and come along.

The Football Development Programme is a two-year full-time course which allows students the prospect to study sport in a theoretical and practical aspect.

The course also creates the pathway for students to be able to progress onto higher education degree/diploma or enter employment, in areas such as sports coaching, sports development or continuing to play football at a professional or semi-professional level.

Students will train two days a week and play against other colleges and professional teams on Wednesday afternoons, with students permitted to play for other local clubs on a weekend.
Mark Sale, Football and Education Head Coach, commented: ‘We are delighted to be offering boys across East Staffordshire and the surrounding areas this option again and believe this will be as successful as recent years. The trials give the boys the opportunity to showcase their footballing ability and also ask any questions regarding their education.”

To be eligible for the programme, students must be predicted 5 A-C GCSEs including Maths and English. Players also need to be of County standard. Places will be subject to a trial where playing ability will be assessed, as well as an academic interview with Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Burton Albion Community Trust and BSDC are also offering the same programme for Girls leaving school this academic year. There are limited numbers on this programme so please use the contacts below to find out more information.

Richard Burley, Vice Principal of Curriculum at Burton and South Derbyshire College said:
“The football programmes delivered with Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) offers a strong mix of education and sporting development. The combination of the outstanding work of the team at BACT and the College's unique relationship with St George’s Park, mean that students on these programmes will have some of the best opportunities within the world of football. The addition of the girls programme from September is built on the success of the existing activities delivered within the partnership. The curriculum and enrichment available will support students in developing a broad range of knowledge and skills which will be valued by prospective employers and Universities.
