Brewers crash out of Youth Cup
Albion's Under 18s crashed out of the FA Youth Cup after suffering a 5-0 defeat at Molineux. A brace apiece for Ibrahim Keita and Bradley Reid plus a goal from former Brewer Regan Upton settled the affair as Mike Whitlow's team bowed out of the competition's first round.
Â
The hosts saw much of the ball in the early stages of the tie, Ibrahim Keita saw his early effort from 20 yards parried wide by goalkeeper Alex Horton.
Â
The Brewers could have found themselves in front inside the first 10 minutes had Leandro Browne connected with a well worked cross courtesy of Jack O'Brien.
Â
Forward Leandro Brown almost gave the Brewers the lead when he connected with a Marcus Harness cross only to see his powered drive head inches over the Wolves bar.
Â
Brewers' goalkeeper Alex Horton was called into action when Cieron Keane struck from 20 yards, the young 'keeper then had to be on his toes when the resulting corner saw Keita strike a half volley straight at his body.
Â
Wolves' attacking line finally found a way through the Brewers' defence on 25 minutes, forward Keita found himself with a yard of space inside the area after a corner and managed to put the ball past the outrushing Horton.
Wolves doubled their lead on 35 minutes, striker Keita bagged his second of the game from another corner. Cieron Keane's in-swinging corner found defender Ashley Carter who managed to hold off Isaac Currie to knock it into the path of Keita who made no mistake from 6 yards.
Â
The Brewers went into the break behind but striker Sam Austin could have got Albion back into the match twice. First he rounded 'keeper Scott Dutton but saw his shot parried by the outstretched arm o the young stopper.
Â
Austin's second came when he found himself through on goal, this time he dragged his shot wide of Dutton's goal.
Â
Burton started the second-half in a confident mood, Marcus Harness smashed a 20 yard strike at the post as the Brewers went in search of goal to try and find a way back into the tie.
Â
Just as Burton were finding their feet Wolves delivered a devastating counter attack, winger Keane raced down the left wing before delivering a low cross for Bradley Reid who guided the ball past Horton from 6 yard.Â
Â
Keita almost claimed his hat-trick when his downward header smashed against the post.
Â
Moments later Wolves hit the woodwork again, this time Reid with a powerful drive from outside the box. Goalkeeper Horton managed to divert the ball onto the underside of the bar before clearing.Â
Browne and Harness were proving a handful for Wolves' defence as the Brewers tried to force their way back into the match.
A mazy run by Browne saw the forward have a sight on goal but he could only drag his shot wide of post.
Reid bagged his second of the match for Wolves after 68 minutes, a well worked team goal ended in the impressive Reid taking the ball first time on the edge of the box and finding the bottom corner.
Former Brewers player Upton scored Wolves' fifth as he ran onto a low cross to strike into the bottom corner past Horton.Â
