Swiss 'keeper eager to impress
New signing Benjamin Siegrist is determined to get the maximum out of his one-month loan period with the Brewers.
The Switzerland Under-21 international joined Burton Albion on loan prior to Thursday’s loan deadline and the former FC Basel goalkeeper is eager to get his first taste of men’s football with the Brewers.
He said: “For me it is about going out there and getting men’s football, I have been waiting for my opportunity and I am really glad that it has happened and I am excited.”
The Pirelli Stadium will be a familiar ground for Siegrist as he has been regularly playing for Aston Villa Under-21’s at Albion’s home ground.
“We play our games here (Pirelli Stadium) for the Aston Villa Under-21s and it is quite close to Aston Villa so it is not too much bother to travel and I am ready to go.
“If I am selected I know the layout of the pitch and stuff like that.
“When I played my first game here I remember it being a brilliant pitch and I imagine if the stadium is full there will be some good atmospheres,” he explained.
Siegrist will train with his new teammates today for the first time and the 21-year-old is keen to get to grips with Albion’s style of play as soon as possible.
“I think just getting a start in men’s football and I am still learning every day and it is going to be good working with a different goalkeeping coach and working in a different environment.
“The style of football is going to be different so I need to adapt to that so it is all part of my development,” he said.
Siegrist revealed that former Aston Villa goalkeeper Kevin Poole had a big role bringing him to the Pirelli Stadium.
“I really want to do well and impress the new gaffer and the goalkeeping coach and take it from there.
“I know they had been in touch with my goalkeeping coach at Villa and they worked something out.”
He added: “The Academy Manager at Villa signed Kevin Poole at Villa when he was a youngster so there was a connection there.”

Siegrist could be part of the Burton Albion squad that travel to Plymouth Argyle for tomorrow's match at Home Park.
