Burton Albion entertain Southend United this weekend with both sides coming into the game on the back of victories from their last league outings.
The Brewers were 2-1 winners away at Wycombe Wanderers last Saturday courtesy of two Billy Kee strikes; a result that ensured a return of 10 points from a possible 15 away from home.
The Shrimpers, meanwhile, were also away winners; beating Oxford 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium although Phil Brown’s men were on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline at home to Dagenham and Redbridge midweek in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The results for both club’s last weekend is mirrored in the Sky Bet League 2 table with very little to separate the sides; the Brewers just two places and one point ahead of Saturday’s opponents.
The last clash between the two sides saw Albion collect all three points in a 2-0 victory with goals from Calvin Zola and Lee Bell condemning the visitors to their first defeat in 15.
Burton Albion Manager Gary Rowett commented: ‘It was a really pleasing performance last week and a lot of things that we have worked on were better and there was a big improvement.
‘The keys it to now add to that little bit of momentum we have and continue to move in the right direction. It’s not always going to be as smooth as we’d like it to be but nevertheless its 15 points from 10 games and that’s a solid start.
‘What we want to be this season is more consistent and if you throw the away and cup games into the equation we certainly have been; we’ve just had a bit of a blip with those three games.
‘We’ll have to get back to winning ways at home to sustain a challenge. We’ve had some ups and downs already this season but there are 36 games to go and it’s about us improving and looking to get better all the time.’
‘The players have all trained fantastically well this week; we’ll reflect on that and pick the appropriate side for Southend.’
Tickets for the match against Southend United are available on the day from the Pirelli Stadium.Â
