Johnstone's Paint Trophy First Round action from Meadow Lane
Burton Albion are still looking for their first win in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Skybet League 1 side Notts County.Callum McGregor's 39th minute strike from 25 yards was all that seperated the two sides with County having the better of the first half and Albion spending large parts of the second period camped in the County half but just unable to find a clinical finish to take the game to a penalty shoot-out.
Gary Rowett used the game to experiment with his formation and also blood some of his fringe and younger players making five changes to Saturday's team with Matty Palmer making just his second start for the club whilst Dominic Knowles was handed a full debut in attack and second year scholar Marcus Harness took his senior bow with a second half appearance from the bench.
Albion's best chance came late on when substitutes Adam McGurk and Rene Howe combined forcing home keeper Bartosz Bialkowski into a smart save before Ian Sharps headed a good chance over the bar deep into stoppage time.
