Preview: Brewers v Scunthorpe

27 September 2013

Burton Albion take on Scunthorpe United at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday looking to end a run of three straight defeats in the league.

The Brewers went down 3-1 to AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow last weekend; the visitors taking a 1-0 lead into the break despite being down to 10 men after Marcus Holness had seen red midway through the first half.

Back at the Pirelli, Garry Rowett’s men will be looking for a return to the kind of form that saw the club’s home record unrivalled by any club in the top four divisions of English football in 2012/13; including a run of nine consecutive victories.

The hosts will look for a return to winning ways against a Scunthorpe side who have made a solid start to the 2013/14 Sky Bet League 2 campaign with the Irons currently sit in 10th position with 13 points from their eight games played; two places and two points ahead of the Brewers.

Brian Laws’ men arrive at the Pirelli in decent form having recorded back-to-back wins in the league against Southend United and Plymouth Argyle respectively and come into the game with no fresh injury concerns other than long-term absentees Michael Collins, Matt Godden, Andy Welsh and Christian Ribeiro.

For their part, the Brewers will be able to call on recent signing Shane Cansdell-Sherriff who arrives from Preston North End on loan with Albion light in defence with both Ian Sharps and Marcus Holness suspended, whilst Chris Hussey and Rory Delap have missed the last two matches through injury.

Burton Albion defender Zander Diamond commented: ‘We know we have to go out and fight and the boys are really fired up and ready for the game; especially with it being at the Pirelli in front of our own fans.

‘We’ve shown last season that if you pick up a few results and get some consistency in the performances you can soon start propelling yourselves up the league.

‘Dips in form happen and we need to bounce back with three points on Saturday to get back to winning ways. Last season we went on a tremendous run and that’s what we’ll be looking to do again.’

Tickets are available on the day from the Pirelli Stadium whilst tickets can also be purchased in advance up until 12pm by calling the Ticket Office on 01283 565938.
