BALFC Crowned League Champions

28 April 2014

Brereton Town LFC 0
Burton Albion LFC 4

The Brewers Ladies arrived at fellow promotion hopefuls Brereton Town knowing that 3 points would see them crowned champions of the Staffordshire Women's County Football League.

Burton Albion Football Club and Burton Albion Community Trust pass on their congratulations.

The Ladies started excellently pressing Brereton all over the pitch and took the lead on 2mins when an Amie Savva through ball set Ruby Hallam away and in the clear to calmly slot the ball past the home sides keeper.

The 1st half continued with numerous chances going begging with Savva, Hallam, Levitt and Beck unlucky not to add the scoreline until the 30th minute when the ball broke to Michelle Beck who ran the channel and centred the ball for Levitt who was then taken down by the keeper and the referee pointing to the spot. Levitt stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net to seal her 29th goal of the season to date.

The Brewers headed into the break 2-0 to the good and the team talk was centred around the next 45 minutes and focusing adding to the score, seeing the game out and keeping a vital clean sheet.

Second half strikes from Michelle Kilmartin (78mins) and Darcie Sanders (82mins) sealed a comfortable 4-0 victory, sparking scenes of delight at the final whistle.

The ladies will now head to the West Midlands Women's Regional League next Season and will be looking to build on this season and challenge for the title again next season.
Manager Adam Smallman commented "Im delighted for the Players and everyone at the football especially Gill Banton, she is our long standing Secretary and her service to the team and women's football in the local area is second to none".

"We now have two games to go and we have set the girls the target of winning the last two games and building on our 19 game unbeaten run in the league. Its been a long season but days like today are ones that stick long in the memories"
