Cansdell-Sherriff: We can bounce back

12 April 2014

Defender disappointed with Northampton loss

Burton Albion defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff says his team weren’t at the races as they lost 1-0 at Northampton Town.

The Brewers had a difficult afternoon at Sixfields, and Cansdell-Sherriff was disappointed about the result.

“It was a bad day for us. We were disappointing and we didn’t turn up today. It wasn’t as if we got battered from start to finish, we just weren’t as sharp as we could have been. We allowed them to play their type of game with us and they made it difficult for us.

“It’s difficult to put your finger as to why we didn’t play well. They set up to play a certain way and we struggled to adjust. Sometimes in a match you have to try and organise from the back and it’s about relaying the information and sometimes that can be quite difficult. Our quality on the ball just wasn’t there today,” he said.

Cansdell-Sherriff says the team coped well with the change of goalkeeper following Rob Lainton’s injury, and the Australian defender is already looking ahead to next week’s home game with Hartlepool United.

“Rob Lainton’s injury didn’t change things for us. Deano did well and he did well when he’s played before. He’s done what he’s been asked to do and I thought he had a good game when he came on.

“It’s frustrating to give away a goal like that. They didn’t really pull us apart, we just weren’t as sharp as we could have been and we just weren’t at the races.

“We know we can bounce back with the characters we have in the squad. We haven’t lost many games this season so all we can do is look to the next game and move forward.”
