Sharps Signs New Deal

11 April 2014

Defender extends contract until 2015

BURTON defender Ian Sharps has today agreed a deal to stay with the club until the summer of 2015.

The 33 year-old, whose current deal was due to expire this summer, has formed a pivotal partnership with Shane Cansdell-Sherriff at Pirelli Stadium this season.

Sharps, who helped guide Shrewsbury to a League Two promotion in the 2011/12 season, is pleased to have extended his stay with the club.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed on.  It wasn’t really a question of thinking about it too much.

“As soon I had spoken to Gary, we sorted it out pretty quickly and I put pen to paper.”

And having being rewarded for his fine form this campaign with a year extension, Sharps is hoping that he can play on for as long as possible.

“Obviously I’m 33 now and the new contract will take me up to 34 and I’m hoping to play for a few more years after that.

“I think I’m fit enough and strong enough to do that at this moment in time.”
