Flt Lt Darby returns signed shirt to club

Ahead of last Saturday’s home game with Dagenham & Redbridge, The Burton Albion squad were presented a signed shirt from Flt Lt Sophie Darby which flew with her on various operations. Flt Lt Darby was born and raised in Burton and has regularly attended Brewers matches with her family over the years.

Deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan last summer as part of Squadron 31 RAF, she was part of Operation Herrick, providing tactical reconnaissance and support to ISAF and Afghan troops.

Flt Lt Darby has completed two tours of Kandahar, flying over 100 missions in theatre. On one of her missions, she took her signed Burton Albion shirt with her in the Tornado GR4 and because of this, the Brewers shirt was awarded a certificate to say it had flown during the operation.

As part of Saturday’s presentation, the Brewers squad were presented the shirt back to the club which they will be showcased at The Pirelli Stadium.

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said “We were delighted to welcome Flt Lt Darby and her family to the game as we as a club recognise and appreciate her work. It is a great gesture from Sophie to take the shirt on her missions, spreading awareness of the Brewers across the world.”
