Summerfield: We have options

Assistant boss previews Spotland clash

Burton Albion assistant manager Kevin Summerfield is in confident mood ahead of Tuesday’s Sky Bet League 2 clash at Rochdale, predicting an exciting game as two promotion hopefuls square up at Spotland.

With a run of three successive away games on the horizon for the Brewers, Summerfield hopes the side’s consistent away form will stand them in good stead.

“Thankfully we’ve done well away from home. The Morecambe win was a great result to get under our belts. Tuesday night will be a great game, and Bristol Rovers and Torquay will be real fights, so it would be nice if we could come back with a couple of results,” said Summerfield.

With a busy run of three games in six days, fitness will be an important factor in deciding games, something Summerfield says is one of the squad’s strengths.

“It doesn’t really concern us as they’re a fit bunch. We’ve brought players in to give us to give us the opportunity of putting them in the team.

“We have options and it’s only Michael Symes that’s injured so we’re looking ok as a squad,” Summerfield added.

The Brewers are unbeaten away from home in the league since the middle of November – a complete contrast to last season’s imperious home form. Summerfield, however, says the squad are aware and are working hard to rectify it.

“We spoke about it a lot at the end of the season and during the summer during recruitment. We knew we’d be a tougher team away from home.

“The balance has gone from being unbeatable at home to being really tough away from home. We have to pick up our home form but that isn’t easy as teams are giving us much more respect.”
