YMCA collection at Cheltenham match

On your way into tomorrow's game against Cheltenham Town you will notice members of the Rotary Club of Bretby making a charity collection on behalf of Burton YMCA.

Rotary President Andrew Smart said: “The Rotary Club of Bretby are looking forward to again collecting for the YMCA at Burton Albion's game against Cheltenham.

"Since last year's collection our Club have strengthened ties with the YMCA and have undertaken a two-year programme to collect items to help make up food parcels for those local people finding it difficult to make ends meet.

"The money raised from today’s match collection will go towards furnishing the rooms at the YMCA’s new centre. If anyone wishes to support the food parcels initiative, canned and dry goods can be dropped off at the Reconnect Centre on James Street.”

Bretby’s involvement with Burton YMCA is just one of a number of local and community-based activities with which the Club is involved, ranging from litter-picking on the Washlands, organising entertainment for residents of care- and rest-homes for senior citizens, to music, cookery and debating/public speaking  competitions for local schools.

Other Rotary projects include the national Kids Out Day as well as activities on an international scale such as exchange visits, Club twinning arrangements with Lingen-Ems and the Polio Plus campaign to totally eradicate polio world-wide.

Rotary is the world’s largest international humanitarian service organization which focuses its efforts on improving the lives and prospects of those unable to do so for themselves, encompassing disease prevention and treatment, water supply/purification and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy and economic, community and personal development.

Rotary’s motto is ‘Service above Self’, and if you would like to join with us to make a difference or to know more about Rotary in general or the Rotary Club of Bretby in particular, contact the Club’s Membership Officer John Dain on (01283) 712613 or at johndain@uwclub.net.
