Sharps: We're focusing on ourselves

Defender keen to focus on Albion not opponent

Burton Albion defender Ian Sharps is well aware of the threat that Fleetwood Town will pose when they visit the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, but says that the squad is only focusing on themselves.

The Brewers are unbeaten in ten, but could well be in for a tough afternoon against the Cod Army, who have won their last three league games.

After also facing each other twice in the FA Cup last month, Sharps says the squad are only focusing on themselves.

“We’re both very familiar to each other. They’re a good side and they’re on a good run of form like ourselves, but we have to worry about what Burton do and nobody else,” Sharps told Brewers Player.

The last league meeting saw Albion 3-0 up at half-time before holding out t win 3-2, and Sharps is determined not to let Fleetwood’s potent attack strike again this time around.

“We played them in the league away and they got two goals, which is obviously two more goals than we like to concede.

“They have good forwards and good midfielders going forward so it’s something we’ll have to watch out for. We’re capable of putting on a good performance against anyone in the league, and that’s what we have to try and do,” said Sharps.

Only two league points separate the teams heading into this game, with Sharps recognising the importance of this game going into the final third of the season.

“All games have a lot of importance now. All of the top ten or 12 sides can get in the top seven and they’ll all be looking to push on. Every team has something to play for so they’re all hard games.

“After the game you may think ‘what if’ but going into the game, we just have to treat it as another game where we have to go and do what we do well.”
