ROBBIE WEIR SIGNS NEW CONTRACT

24 June 2014

Midfielder to remain with the Brewers

Burton Albion midfielder Robbie Weir has signed a new deal, keeping him at the Pirelli Stadium for a further two years.

The Northern Irish midfielder was instrumental as the Brewers reached the League Two play-off final at Wembley, where both he and Captain Lee Bell made their 100th starts in Albion colours.

The former Sunderland man made 50 appearances in all competitions last season, and his reliability in the centre of midfield has been a big bonus to Gary Rowett, who is pleased to see Weir stay at the club.

“We’re really pleased that Robbie has decided to sign for two more years. We were always confident the deal would be done and keeping him is a massive bonus for us.

“We now have four very good central midfielders at the club and I think we’ll be very strong in that area next season.

“Most of the squad is in place, which is something we wanted to achieve and now for us it’s about sorting out those last couple of deals as we look towards pre-season in a very good position.”
